Look at what has unraveled around us... We are now in the middle of the summer here in Utica, NY. I admit we have had some crazy weather thunder storms, hail storms and weather that some might say leave a bad taste in your mouth. Us natives are used to it and most likely can all agree that its tolerable.
Saranac Thursdays are rocking right along and I know you guys have been having a great time, at the brewery and down on Varick street afterwards. Last night must've kicked ass with local sensation Chokeslam on the stage. unfortunatly I wasnt able to attend so you will have to let me knowjust how awesome it was.
I am however wicked excited about the concert tonight, Dark Star Orchestra, and Keller Williams. This is gonna be one of the best shows of the summer. The weather should hold out if you can help me will it to. Rain or shine I will be there and be taking some photos so ham it up kiddo!

Thank god... its here. Summer, Saranac Thursday and the good times we wait for all winter here in Central New York. Even though the weather was absolutely perfect and there were a few patchy showers the brewery was packed with beer drinkers and a lively bad that made people smile and put them in a great state of mind to finish out their weeks.
I went out with my friend Paul and we got to the brewery early so he could buy his Rusted Root ticket for the Concert tonight and his birthday. While I was there I renewed my brewery membership card, because being a member pays.
So Saranac Thursday starts at 5:30 and we had some time so Paul and I walked down to the Electric Company I got a Black Forrest, Paul likes lighter beer so he ordered a Summer Brew both drafts and it was cold and tasty.
After that we went into the Brewery's court yard and we had a couple of more beers listened to Showtime and i took some photos. It was great to see some people I haven't seen all winter.
Check out what the weather might be like for Saranac Thursday this week. Of course we all want it to be sunny and hot, but you never know in central NY. Be prepared.
The First Saranac Thursday this year (May 28, 2009) will feature a local band called Showtime. Even though I'm not a huge fan of cover bands, Showtime can really rock a crowd. They have a good play list and influences that all ages relate to like Dave Matthews, Earth Wind & Fire, and Elton John to name a few. They also have a few well crafted originals that are always a great thing to listen to while you enjoy some locally brewed craft beer.
So call a friend, and drag some coworkers out with you on May 28th, 2009 to see some Music and drink some awesome beer. I mean you can't just sit home while the rest of Utica is celebrating summer can you?
West Utica is Gearing up for the First Saranac Thursday of 2009
With Saranac Thursdays starting in under two weeks everyone in west Utica is hustling to get things ready. Most Utica residents are accustomed to the hottest event going on during the summer months. Usually you never see all the work that goes into getting things ready for Saranac Thursday.
I know the people at the Brewery put in a ton of effort finding bands, cleaning the grounds, setting up the stages and a million other things on a list to make it take off for them without a hitch. There are other people who are involved, especially the City of Utica. I was Fortunate to be having lunch at Odonnels Pub on Varick St the other day and there was a huge construction ordeal going on on the street. It looked to me as if they were looking at repaving the whole thing? I didn't stop any of the workers but we'll see what the road looks like on the 28th and where they got. I could be totally wrong Kid Panic could've just clogged up the sewer again.
Varick Street Bars have also got a ton of work to do to get ready. Like The Electric Company who packs so many people in to hear the awesome party bands they book. Finding those unique sounding bands to draw in all those people isnt an easy task. Nail Creek is building a new deck, so it can almost double its capacity. All this extra efforts mean more profits for these bars and it pays off!
The Only thing that might be missing on Varick Street is FOOD! We need places to eat. I have definetly lived on just a liquid diet in the past, but these days it can be dangerous. I know there is a hot dog stand, but somtimes I just dont want it, I'm a fan of variety. I hope there is more options this year on Varick Street.
Be ready, tell your boss that you will be coming in late on Friday May 29th, Because Saranac Thursday Starts on the 28th.
In just a few weeks you will be able to finally unravel after the cold dark winter wound you up. Saranac Thursday will be here to lift your spirits as you raise a glass or two to welcome the summer season. The official kick off date is May 28, 2009 and the band Showtime is playing.
For most of us Uticans, Saranac Thursday is an official marker that summer has finally fallen upon us. The leaves are budding, you aren't bound to the inside, and the sun doesn't set untill past 8pm. I know the brewery will have some new and exciting things for us. You can see the bands that will be playing Saranac Thursday here. I know the brewery has got a different beverage line-up for you to taste as well. I know they will be searving up the all new Summer Brew, and some of the typical brews from all of the past years, but i haven't gotten any word as to what other new beers from their Summer seasonal 12 pack they will be pouring on the Thursday night events.
Look for me at Saranac Thursday and smile for my camera, you could end up on my blog here and you and your friends can enjoy the good times for a while.
Saranac Announces "Summer Brew" Just in time for Saranac Thursdays
How many times do you end up bringing someone new to Saranac Thursday, you know a Saranac newbee... In most cases these new people are light beer drinkers and don't go because they think they can't enjoy Saranac beer. Well this year the brewery is releasing Saranac Summer Brew. This is a great alternative for beer drinkers who usually drink a lighter beer. It has a twist of lemon in it and is a refreshing beer that will be sure to cool you off in the hot sun.
I know I try to bring as many new people as I can so they can see what all the hub bub is about, and why everyone else at work on Friday is moving a little slower. I think now there will be more and more people coming out to the events with this new beer as part of the beverage line-up.
Saranac Thursday's start on May 28th and you can come down to the brewery and get yourself a cold Summer Brew, talk with some friends and even hear some music. Its a great place to unwind and take a break from your work week.
Saranac Thursdays starts in just a few weeks, and I finally got my hands on the live music schedule of bands that will be playing this summer season. As usual it's similar to the years before but remember people its not about the music its about the beer. The music is the background noise of our lives. I think Jerry Garcia said that.
